Productivity and Costs

Productivity rose 1.3 percent in the nonfarm business sector in third-quarter 2008, as hours fell faster than output. Unit labor costs increased 2.8 percent. Manufacturing output per hour fell 2.7 percent; unit labor costs increased 7.6 percent. All rates are seasonally adjusted annual rates. Full Text »

Metropolitan Area Employment and Unemployment (Monthly)

Unemployment rates were higher in October than a year earlier in 361 of the 369 metropolitan areas and lower in 8 areas. Among the 310 metropolitan areas for which nonfarm payroll data were available, 125 metropolitan areas reported over-the-year employment gains, 169 reported losses, and 16 had no change. Full Text »
